Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
Every year the Alabama Coastal Foundation honors the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. by serving in our community with various projects including cleanups and recycling efforts.
For 2016's MLK Day of Service, help the ACF spread opportunities for giving back on social media!
First, people can use their social media accounts to help promote three upcoming initiatives. They can encourage people to:
1) Register for the January 29th Sustainability Summit;
2) Volunteer their time recycling during the Mardi Gras Eco-Team; or,
3) Ask any Middle School students they know to apply for the Estuary Corps program.
If people want to participate in person, they can:
1) Participate in or lead a cleanup at their neighborhood or park;
2) Volunteer at their local recycling center; or,
3) Help with another service project listed on this website.

2015 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
In 2015, ACF staff and volunteers assisted the Goodwill Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast by helping sort recycled materials at the Mobile County Recycling Center in west Mobile. Staff and volunteers helped sort through plastic bottles and bags while also promoting the Mardi Gras Eco-Team by passing out flyers to those dropping off recyclables.
2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
In 2014, ACF joined with The Delta Bike Project, The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, Holston Vaughan LLC and many other sponsors and partnering organizations to organize a clean up on the banks of Three Mile Creek. 130 volunteers gave up their holiday morning to provide service to the community of Toulminville. They collected hundreds of bags of trash from in and around the creek, and over 200 illegally-dumped tires were also collected. The Tires were disposed of by Firestone as a contribution to the community.
2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
In 2013, employees of ACF worked at the Downtown Recycling Center run by Keep Mobile Beautiful. Staff members spent the day sorting recycling, helping unload recycling as people brought it along, as well as collecting demographic information on those who frequent the recycling center to provide better services to the community.
