Through January 31, 2014, the Alabama Coastal Foundation (ACF) will be campaigning for suitable habitats for Osprey nesting in coastal Alabama. Each year, Osprey come back to their this beautiful area to hunt and raise their young, only to find less and less room for the raptors to settle.

The Osprey population declined because of a pesticide from the 1950s that weakened the shells, allowing them to be crushed by the nesting mother. While that chemical is no longer a threat, the expanding human population inhibiting the recovering of this important indicator species.

Every dollar donated will aid the ACF in constructing three new Osprey platforms and, if we hit our goal of $12,007, we will be able to install a live streaming video camera for the entire globe to view! Each spring, the Osprey will be accessable in real time throughout the summer as long as the nest is inhabited. All viewers will be a part of the Osprey's lives as they rear their chicks each day.

Since 1993, the Alabama Coastal Foundation (ACF) has worked to promote a culture where environmental decisions are based on an accurate understanding of the underlying science, the dissemination of factual information, and the engagement of government, industry and citizens to find solutions to Alabama's coastal environmental challenges. We bring that vision into reality through our inclusive environmental stewardship approach.

ACF makes it easy for you to connect to your coast! Keep up to date on events and opportunities to improve and protect Alabama's precious coastal environment.
